DAVIDO IN A FRESH SEX SCANDAL

Just when we thought Davido was finally free of controversy, the Pop star has been tangled up again, this time in East Africa. A ‘Kenyan socialite’ is claiming she slept with the young Nigerian singer this past weekend while he was in the country for a performance at the Bombaata Festival which also featured Nigerian artiste Ice Prince, singer Victoria Kimani and some other Kenyan acts. Staciey Brianar popularly known as Pendo is alleging she got to have a s*xual encounter with the Davido hours after the concert ended, claiming to have hooked up with him at a Kenyan night club ‘Galileo’. Pendo seemed to have a whole to say: the controversial young Kenyan lady in a lengthy chat with a Kenyan blog took time to narrate her experience with Davido. Pendo says she met up with Davido hours before the show through HKN Gang’s Deekay. ‘I made my way there, got to at long last meet Deekay, my long-time pal from HKN and through him; I made my way to skyluxx for the play house party where all of us stuck up in the VIP area. I knew I had won my jackpot so there was nothing to worry about. As a matter of fact, he (Davido) had spotted me too; we talked in a way only the two of us could understand’, Pendo narrates. Pendo says she wasn’t worried if Davido was going to choose another girl to take back to his hotel room after the ‘after party’ so she didn’t even bother going for the show… ‘I had my fun and made my way home ready for the big day as I said I was not worried, so there’s was no time in me hustling to go to the backstage as other girls did…no! I had my food ready to eat, after the event, my friend Deekay (HKN) buzzed me and asked me to turn up that he (Davido) was asking for me. I made my way to Galileo with my girlfriends, I minded my own business until he spotted me and asked his DJ to come get me, I still had no rush to be seen hanging out with him or anything, so I sat down n had my drink that he offered’, she continues her story. Pendo says when it was time to leave the hangout spot, the organizers thought it best for them to leave in separate cars just to avoid the media. ‘So David paid for my cab that followed them directly to the hotel located in Hurlingham. When I got there, he sent his deejay (DJ Olu) to give me his key card to his room as he talked to someone. He escorted me to the room and the rest is self-explanatory’. Now, Pendo is known for spinning stories to get mentioned on blogs and social network (she’s also been mentioning @Iam_Davido on Twitter) so everybody is finding this story hard to believe. But then again, she must be one damn good storyteller too! The young lady has even gone on to describe her alleged s*xual encounter with the young pop star, revealing Davido is one of the best she’s ever done it with, describing him as ‘Perfect’. ‘He was perfect. He is much better than your ‘average Kenyan’. He is big. Both length and width and best part is he really knows what he is working with. He has crazy moves; he kept it fresh for a couple hours. I am impressed. Definitely the best, ok maybe not the best I ever had, but he is up there’, Pendo told another Kenyan blog, the African Eagle. She also praised him for not only being a ‘good lover’ but also a gentleman. ‘Not only did he not publicise the affair, but he left me with some personal mementos to remember him. I don’t think a one night stand does that. Plus there is still communication going on. I’m not saying we are dating, but we are definitely still talking. He did not ‘hit it and quit it’. Pendo also says she didn’t bother taking pictures and definitely didn’t do it for the money… ‘I didn’t get money from him. I didn’t want money from him. I did it simply because I find him hot and he is pretty legit in the music industry in Africa. Yeah, I am attracted by his talent, his fame, his power, but honestly, who isn’t?’, she said. Davido’s manager Kamal has denied the story and explains that they were actually warned by the show’s publicist about the girl. He insists that Davido did not have any contact with Pendo.

Less than a year after the gruesome mob killing of four students of the University of Port Harcourt, which was caught on video, shook the nation to the marrows, a similar incident happened on Sunday in the Badagry area of Lagos State, involving yet another university undergraduate and also caught on video camera. Ifechukwude Nwainokpor, a 25-year old final-year student of Geology and Mining of the Delta State University, Abraka and his friend simply identified as Kazeem were lynched by an irate mob in Ajara area of Badagry, a community not far from the Nwainokpor’s family home. In the eight-minute video clip which was seen by this correspondent, the two victims were handcuffed together and covered in their own blood after being beaten to death with sticks. Tyres were also put round their necks. An irate mob could be seen in the video, shouting, “die, die, burn them, burn them.” At some points in the video, a policeman was seen interviewing the boys. He asked who sent them (victims) to rob the area, an accusation they denied. One of the hoodlums, holding a sharp object attempted to cut off the private part of one of the victims. Nwainokpor could be seen pleading with the hoodlums and policemen to spare his life, saying he could identify himself if given a chance. His plea, however, fell on deaf ears. Our correspondent, who visited the family of Nwainokpor  on Tuesday, learnt that the lynching took place around 3pm on July 21, 2013 in Ajara area of Badagry, a community not far from Nwainokpor’s family home. His father, Samuel, told this correspondent that his son was arrested while passing through a street in the area  but a misunderstanding later ensued and the hoodlums pounced on  him  and Kazeem. He said, “On that particular day, I was in Ghana when I received a telephone call that I should come immediately. My wife was in Delta State taking care of her   mother. “When I arrived two days later, my relatives and the caretaker of my house told me that my son was killed in the Ajara area along with his friend. I was devastated. “I got my son a temporary job with a Customs licensed agent since their lecturers were on strike.  He worked every day except on Sundays when he visited his friends. On that day, he went to see Kazeem and they were strolling around Ajara.” Samuel said because there had been a robbery in Ajara four days earlier, some of the residents was on the lookout for strange faces. He added that when the youth saw two unknown young men, they  accosted them and an argument ensued. He said the youth called the head of the vigilante group   in the area, one Asiribo. He said, “Asiribo came to the scene with a locally-made pistol and handcuffs. He handcuffed my son and his friend  before asking them questions. “Later, it was decided that the boys be taken to the Baale, Agano Oniyon of Agamade Ajara. But as they were going, Asiribo, while trying to return his gun into its  pouch, mistakenly shot himself in the stomach and died.” Samuel said Asiribo’s death infuriated the youth, who  blamed the boys for  his  death. “The mob picked up sticks  and beat them to death. Policemen were there,”   he  said. The retired immigration officer who was on the verge of tears added that the police treated the matter as a robbery case, while he declared that there was no way his son would have been involved in armed robbery. He said, “I have been living in Badagry since 1982. I have only two children and Ifechukwude  is the  first. Ironically, he was born in that same area where he was killed. “I have lived in this area without any trouble and the residents  can tell you that my sons are good  boys.” Nwainokpor’s boss, Aloysius Onyenibedi, described him as an honest and hardworking person. “I trusted him to the extent that I used to keep a lot of money with him. He was good to my children and was honest,” he said. The Nwainokpor family berated the Divisional Police Officer, Badagry Police Station,  Dankoli Mohammed, for the manner he treated the case. Samuel said when he approached the DPO, he was told that his son was killed at midnight for armed robbery. He said, “When the policemen came to take the corpses, guns were planted on them. Policemen at the station told the DPO that they were robbers. Their corpses were taken along with that Asiribo to Badagry General Hospital’s mortuary. “The following morning, the DPO released Asiribo’s corpse for burial without investigation. My relatives went to the station and after showing the DPO the video, the matter was transferred to the Area K Command. “At present, Asiribo’s son has fled, while the DPO has been unable to identify the policemen who were present at the scene when my son  and his friend were killed.” It was however learnt that through the video, some people had arrested one of the perpetrators. The suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,  Panti, Yaba. Also, the policemen attached to the Badagry Police Division, Lagos State have also been arrested. The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said, “The incident is quite pathetic. Even if they were armed robbers, no one has the right to take the life of another. Why then do we have the police and the judiciary? The Nigerian police as well as the law condemn mob action and jungle justice. The commissioner of police has set up a high- powered investigation body to investigate the matter.”

CAIRO UPRISING

Thousands of supporters of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood stood their ground in Cairo on Sunday, saying they would not leave the streets despite "massacres" by security forces who shot dozens of them dead. Egypt's ambulance service said 72 people were killed in Saturday's violence at a Cairo vigil by supporters of deposed President Mohamed Mursi, triggering global anxiety that the Arab world's most populous country risked plunging into the abyss. Mursi's Brotherhood, which won repeated elections after the fall of autocrat Hosni Mubarak in 2011, has vowed not to leave the streets unless Mursi is restored to power. His supporters accuse the military of reversing the uprising that brought democracy. "They will not be content until they bring back everything from the era of the corrupt, murderous security and intelligence state," senior Brotherhood official Essam el-Erian said on Facebook. "They've stepped up their efforts to do so by committing massacres never before seen in Egyptian history." Although Cairo was quiet on Sunday morning, violent clashes rattled the Suez Canal city of Port Said, with a 17-year-old youth killed in fighting between the pro- and anti-Mursi camps and a further 29 people injured, security sources said. The violence has deeply polarized Egypt, with its secular and liberal elite so far showing little sympathy for the Brotherhood or reservations about the return to power of a military which ruled for 60 years before the 2011 uprising. However, in one of the first signs of doubt from within the interim cabinet installed after the military takeover, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Ziad Bahaa El-Din said the government must not copy the "oppressive and exclusionary policies" of its foes. "Our position must remain fixed on the need to provide legal guarantees not only for the members of the Brotherhood, but for every Egyptian citizen. Excessive force is not permitted," El-Din wrote on Facebook. And in another sign of unease, the Tamarud youth protest movement, which mobilized millions of people against Mursi and has fully backed the army, expressed alarm at an announcement that the interior minister was reviving the feared secret political police shut down after Mubarak was toppled. The killings took place the morning after mass demonstrations called by military chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to show public support for a crackdown on "terrorism", which the Brotherhood sees as justifying an onslaught against it. In an apparent show of support for the police, a smiling Sisi turned up at a graduation ceremony on Sunday broadcast live on state television, receiving a standing ovation from the recruits, all decked out in starched white uniforms. Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim hailed him as "Egypt's devoted son". The military insists it does not want to retain power and aims to hand over to full civilian rule with a "road map" to elections in about six months. But the very public role of Sisi as face of the new order has led to speculation that the next president could again be a military officer, like all of Egypt's rulers between 1952 and Mursi's election last year. On Sunday morning army vehicles still surrounded entrances and exits to the square in northeast Cairo where thousands of Mursi supporters have camped out for a month. Authorities have said they want to clear the activists off the streets, but they were still camped there. Some used pictures of Mursi to shield their heads from the sun. Women and children were resting at tents set near the main gathering area. "We are right, legitimacy is on our side and hopefully at the end God will lead us to triumph and we will not give up," said Mostafa Ali, 29 from Nile delta town of Mansoura.

UK planning to restrict access to online porn

The UK plans on restricting porn saying that "the darkest corners of the Internet" pose a real threat to children, British Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday rolled out a plan that would, by default, block pornography on most computers, smartphones and tablets. British wireless and Internet providers have agreed to put adult-content filters on phones, public Wi-Fi networks and home computers in the coming months. By the end of the year, the filters will become the default setting for anyone setting up broadband Internet service at home, Cameron said. "I'm not making this speech because I want to (moralize) or scare-monger, but because I feel profoundly as a politician, and as a father, that the time for action has come," Cameron said. "This is, quite simply, about how we protect our children and their innocence." All of those filters could be deactivated by those who can "prove" they are 18 or older, Cameron said. The plan is the result of a monthslong effort by Cameron to restrict access to Internet porn. He has called Google and other search companies into meetings, demanding they do more to hide porn from children, and appointed Parliament member Claire Perry as a special adviser targeting the issues. The plan will require no action from Parliament because service providers and other Web companies are participating voluntarily. Some already provide service with porn filters as their default settings. Not surprisingly, Web freedom advocates and other critics were quick to decry the plan. For one, many say effective Web filters simply don't exist. "As a technological feat, it would be utterly impossible," columnist Andy Dawson wrote in the Daily Mirror, a nationwide tabloid frequently critical of Cameron's Conservative Party. "His porn shield speech today, and the proposals that are in it are the deranged ravings of someone who has decided that something must be done, has decided what it is, but doesn't (realize) that it isn't actually feasible. He's got just as much chance of banning (gray) clouds while giving us all access to the nice white, fluffy ones." Critics say that automated filtering technology inevitably allows offensive material through accidentally as well as creating "false positives" that block inoffensive content. Others, such as BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones, say default-on filters can create a false sense of security among parents, who could become more lax in monitoring their children's online behavior.
